Product Detail
Name: Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride
CAS: 7173-51-5
Feature:
Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound.
In the presence of potassium iodide, chlorodecane reacts with methylamine to first prepare bis-decyl methyl tertiary amine, and then place the bis-decyl methyl tertiary amine under pressure. In the medium of water and isopropanol, react with methyl chloride under heating and pressure to obtain didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride.
In the presence of a catalyst, the amination reaction of n-decyl alcohol with a mixed gas of hydrogen and methylamine is carried out to first prepare bis-decyl methyl tertiary amine. Then add bis-decyl methyl tertiary amine, a small amount of sodium carbonate and an appropriate amount of isopropanol in the autoclave, replace the air with nitrogen, heat up to 80~90 ℃, feed methyl chloride, pressure 0.3~0.5MPa. Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride will be obtained in 3~4h.
Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride has the following applications/functions:
1. Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride is a compound used in hospitals as a cleaner/disinfectant. It can also be used as an algaecide in swimming pools and as a fungicide and anti-termite in wood. This compound, which causes contact dermatitis in humans, is also sensitive to glyoxal and bis-(aminopropyl)-laurylamine.
2. Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium-based antimicrobial agent used as a bacteriostatic, deodorant, disinfectant and/or microbicide.
3. Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride is an effective cationic surfactant that can be used in a variety of cleaning systems.
4. Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride can be used as a disinfectant, a general purpose disinfectant for hard, non-porous surfaces. Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride can also be used as a mold inhibitor, wood preservative, and can inhibit termites in wood. It kills algae, phytopathogenic fungi, phytopathogenic bacteria. Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride is an active ingredient in a number of EPA-registered disinfecting products and is labeled with a claim to inactivate the "bird flu" virus on hard surfaces.
5. Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride can be used as mollusk and insecticide in agriculture.
