FLORFENICOL

Name: FLORFENICOL CAS: 73231-34-2 Feature: FLORFENICOL is a fluorinated synthetic analog of thiamphenicol, mainly used in veterinary medicine. It has the same mechanism of action as chloramphenicol (inhibition of protein synthesis). As a generic, it is now available worldwide. FLORFENICOL also is a carboxamide that is the N-dichloroacetyl derivative of (1R,2S)-2-amino-3-fluoro-1-[4-(methanesulfonyl)phenyl]propan-1-ol. FLORFENICOL is more active than either chloramphenicol or thiamphenicol, and may be more bactericidal than previously thought against some pathogens (e.g., BRD pathogens). FLORFENICOL has the following applications/functions: 1. FLORFENICOL is highly lipophilic, which provides high enough concentrations to treat intracellular pathogens and cross some anatomic barriers (penetration across the blood–brain barrier in cattle is 46%). 2. FLORFENICOL has a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity that includes all organisms sensitive to chloramphenicol, gram-negative bacilli, gram-positive cocci, and other atypical bacteria such as mycoplasma. 3. The daily administration of florfenicol at 15 and 20 mg FFC kg(-1) bw for 10 consecutive days significantly reduced the mortality of Nile tilapia infected with francisellosis. 4. FLORFENICOL can stimulate the growth of algae at the concentration of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg/L, and can significantly inhibit the growth of algae at the concentration of >2.0 mg/L. 5. It is a kind of antibacterial drug. It is used as the veterinary antimicrobial drugs for treating bacterial diseases of pigs, chickens and fish. It has good efficacy in treating the infection disease of pigs, chickens and fish induced by sensitive bacteria, especially for treating respiratory infections and intestinal infections.
