Mucuna Pruriens Extract

Name: Mucuna Pruriens Extract CAS:90064-10-1 Feature: Mucuna Pruriens Extract is a rich source of natural levodopa (L-dopa, the precursor of the neurotransmitter dopamine), accounting for about 7% of the seeds. In the ancient books of the Indian traditional medicine system "Ayurveda", it was recorded that Mucuna Pruriens Extract was used to treat several brain-related diseases, the most common being Parkinson’s disease. Mucuna Pruriens Extract, belonging to the Papilionaceae family, is an annual leguminous plant of the genus Sagittaria, which includes about 150 varieties and is native to eastern India and western China. In Central America, Mucuna pruriens is often used as a substitute for coffee after being roasted and ground (because the two flavors are similar). It is found in the literature that Mucuna Pruriens Extract may have anti-diabetic, anti-tumor, anti-microbial, aphrodisiac and enhance learning and memory properties. Mucuna Pruriens Extract has the following applications/functions:
  1. Parkinson's disease is a devastating disease of the human nervous system and the second most common progressive chronic neurodegenerative disease. A study which is double-blind, randomized, controlled and crossover pointed out that Mucuna Pruriens Extract not only showed similar improvement in exercise response, but also had fewer dyskinesias and adverse events compared with oral medications levodopa/benserazide
  2. A prospective study pointed out that Mucuna Pruriens Extract can significantly inhibit lipid peroxidation, increase sperm production and improve sperm motility. Another prospective study pointed out that Mucuna Pruriens Extract not only helps to improve testosterone, luteinizing hormone, dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine levels, but also improves sperm count and vitality. For male infertility, the use of Mucuna Pruriens Extract may help improve the quality of related sperm, but due to the small number of samples, more large randomized controlled studies are still needed to support it.
  3. Currently, antidepressants are the most common form of treatment for major depression, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most commonly prescribed drugs. However, according to recent efficacy trials, only 42% to 46% of outpatient depression patients who received the first step of treatment with SSRIs were relieved. An animal study pointed out that Mucuna Pruriens Extract can produce a special antidepressant effect in acute and chronic depression models through interaction with the dopaminergic system.
