Application and Attention of Common Plant Growth Regulators: Ethephon

Plant growth regulators are artificially synthesized and extracted exogenous substances with physiological activity of plant hormones.

Indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) is low toxicity to humans and animals. The dosage forms of ethephon include liquid and wettable powder.

 IBA 6% SL

Entering the plant body can release ethylene under the action of cell fluid. It can promote fruit ripening, induce male infertility, reduce apical dominance, increase effective tillering, dwarf plants, and prevent lodging.

Note:

1. It is stable in solutions with a pH<3.5. When the pH is above 4.5, it will decompose and release ethylene. The higher the pH value, the faster the release. Therefore, it cannot be mixed with alkaline pesticides or fertilizers.

2. It original solution is a highly acidic liquid that can irritate and corrode the skin, mucous membranes, and eyes. It can produce flammable and explosive gases when exposed to alkali, so it should be used with caution.
