Vitamin A Palmitate

Name: Vitamin A Palmitate CAS:79-81-2 Feature: Vitamin A Palmitate is a type of vitamin A. It is an ester of retinol combined with palmitic acid, which is a saturated fatty acid and the main component of palm oil. Vitamin A Palmitate is easily absorbed by the skin and then converted into retinol. It is a yellow or yellow-red solid or oily substance. Vitamin A Palmitate ophthalmic gel is widely used in clinical practice. As far as its experience is concerned, it is mainly aimed at repairing the function of goblet cells and reversing keratinization. Conjunctival goblet cells are an important part of the conjunctival epithelial layer, whose main function is to secrete mucin, protect and lubricate the ocular surface. Conjunctival inflammation caused by allergic conjunctivitis, Sjogren’s syndrome, burns, etc., can damage goblet cells and cause abnormalities in the mucin layer. Vitamin A Palmitate has the following applications/functions:
  1. Vitamin A Palmitate is a common vitamin supplement, available in both oral and injectable forms for treatment of vitamin A deficiency. It is a constituent of intra ocular treatment for dry eyes at a concentration of 138 μg/g (VitA-Pos) by Ursapharm. It is a pre-formed version of vitamin A; therefore, the intake should not exceed the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA). Overdosing preformed Vitamin A forms such as retinyl palmitate leads to adverse physiological reactions (hypervitaminosis A).
  2. Retinyl palmitate is used as an antioxidant and a source of vitamin A added to low fat milk and other dairy products to replace the vitamin content lost through the removal of milk fat. Palmitate is attached to the alcohol form of vitamin A, retinol, in order to make vitamin A stable in milk.
  3. Retinyl palmitate is also a constituent of some topically applied skin care products. After its absorption into the skin, retinyl palmitate is converted to retinol, and ultimately to retinoic acid (the active form of vitamin A present in Retin-A). It can be absorbed through the skin, resist keratinization, stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin, and increase the thickness of the epidermis and dermis. Enhance skin elasticity, effectively eliminate wrinkles, promote skin renewal, and maintain skin vitality. Used in eye cream, moisturizing cream, repair cream, shampoo, conditioner, etc.
